Blackberry Recipe #3

Blackberry Sauce

Blackberry Sauce This blackberry sauce recipe has to win a prize for being quick, easy and delicious.

If you've got a glut of blackberries and don't want to turn them into jam, you can make this sauce and freeze it for up to six months - if you have any left!

Ingredients

Blackberries - at least 200g, but as many as you want!
Sugar - whatever you've got in stock. You'll probably need 50g+ per 200g of blackberries, so start with a little and add more if it's still too sour.

Method

  1. Wash the blackberries thoroughly in a large bowl of water, to remove any stray stalks or bugs.

  2. Drain well and put in a large, non-aluminium pan (aluminium seems to taint the flavour).

  3. Add the sugar and stir.

  4. Cover and heat gently for about 10-15 minutes. Mash slightly, if you want to break up the berries and thicken the sauce.

  5. Serve on waffles / ice cream / fruit salad / in yoghurt - use your imagination!

Time From Cupboard-To-Table

15-20 minutes.
Minimal effort, apart from a little stirring.

Notes & Variations

For kids who don't like pips, push the sauce through a sieve before serving.
